Yankee Grits

Cooking breakfast is like riding a bike-once you learn could you ever really forget? I don't think so. . . but we decided not to risk it and held a practice session. Better safe than sorry. . . Besides, we love breakfast for dinner!

We started out with the basics-our wonderful creamy grits, a French Potato Omelette, applewood-smoked bacon, toast and black raspberry preserves. We made pretty cups of sweet cantalope and plump strawberries topped with vanilla yogurt and my black currant syrup.

We laid out the breakfast table with pretty new linens and place settings. All the creamers and sugars were filled, salt and peppers laid out and we brewed a pot of steamy signature coffee.

Everything went off without a hitch and we felt like seasoned innkeepers.

We are excited to receive our first guests and have reservations for the end of the month. There's still plenty to do around our house but the rooms are pretty and clean.

Quiet Details in A Noisy World

Over the last few years, I have wanted to simplify our household. I love pretty things but don't even"kinda" like the clutter!
Our approach to Casa Bella Bed and Breakfast has been "less is more", choosing cottons and natural fabrics easily cleaned in the laundry rather than with harsh dry-cleaning chemicals. No fussy layerings that can potentially gather dust, limited use of scented items infused with strong carrier oils that can potentially cause discomfort for those with sensitivites to those products.
Uncluttered space, surfaces that are easily cleaned and sanitized for your comfort. Lots of open space and quiet interiors.

Memories Are Made Of This!

Looking back through photo albums from The Old Garden Inn has reminded us of our obligation as innkeepers to provide a quiet, uncluttered space for guests to relax and unwind. We are revisiting our desire to find a balance between good service and overbearing attention.

Remembering The Old Garden fondly, we look forward to a new generation of friendly and appreciative guests bringing laughter and storytelling back into our lives.

As our old friend Dunkin comes to the end of his life we are remembering his role at the inn. He entertained countless guests with his love of singing. Dunkin was a stray here in Coweta County and was quite the runner. To say he was a handfull would be an understatement!

The one thing that often got Dunkin's attention was the soothing music that played in the morning during the breakfast hours. He would stand in front of the cabinet-enjoying the sounds and watching as I changed out CD's. I often sang along and showed Dunkin that the sounds came from my mouth. After two years of patient instruction Dunkin finally belted out his first song. He sang for guests, visitors, friends and family. . . anyone willing to listen!

With that success I decided to see what else he could learn. I saw a trainer who taught his dog to drop dead after being shot with his finger. "Bang, bang!" I wondered if Dunkin could learn it. He was again a fast study and we added this new trick to his repertiore. The trick was short-lived-soon to be shelved forever.

A sign came early one morning while serving a visiting doctor. Highly entertained by Dunkin's new trick our guest "shot" Dunkin through-out his breakfast. Dunkin would drop and roll over.

From the kitchen I heard a odd "thunking" sound. I came around the corner very quietly to see him mouthing "Bang, bang". It was the last time Dunkin would be shot!

We love Dunkin and are going to miss him! He contributed grandly to all those wonderful memories and we are grateful he was in our lives.

Goodbye old friend! Mommy loves you. Sadly, Dunkin passed away the day after I made this post.  He will be missed.

Kiwi and Patti

One of the best ways to spend a Saturday in Newnan between April and December is the Market Days that takes place on the court square each April to December. http://www.mainstreetnewnan.com/

My mouth is watering just thinking about the grilling applewood bacon offered by Pine Street Market of Avondale Estates.
The pancetta is exceptional and reminds me of market days in Tuscany.

Market Days takes place the first Saturday of each month! Hope I will see you there.
